Get your bike posture on point

bike-posture.jpg

It can be so tempting to round forward on a spin bike like those impressive professional cyclists do when they are sprinting in a race. But when you think about it they are minimising wind resistance and maintaining efficiency by using less muscles (resting elbows to ease the core). Whilst this will get you to the finish line quicker in a race, don’t we go to a spin class to work hard?

So, the way I see it, is if we are indoors then we don’t need that streamline shape as we’re not battling the wind! Also if we’re keeping our elbows off the handles, we use the core more to stay  upright = bonus workout!

My challenge for you - Next time you’re in class think about your posture, have a go at staying upright, especially for those sprints, go on I dare you ;) Think flat back, chest forward, elbows tucked (but away from the bars) and eye gaze ahead. Let me know if you notice a difference!

If this sounds like you and you want some more tips feel free to message me or try out this technique in one of my classes.
